Joke #8

French philosopher, scientist, and mathematician Rene Descartes was standing near a large pond. Suddenly a huge gust of wind knocked him off balance and he fell in. The pond was deeper than one would imagine and in his clothes, Descartes began to be pulled under.

People passing by saw him floundering and then going under. For what seemed like a very long time, he was submerged. The people gathered began pointing and shouting as they were afraid he might be in trouble.Suddenly he burst to the surface and paddled his way back to the bank.

One man helped Descartes out of the water and said "Sir, I thought you were going to drown. You were under water for so long. What happened?"

Descartes shaking the water from his clothes said, "I sink, therefore I swam."
